Who Wants a Carrot
I'm going to use some carrots to clear my mind.  Let's go, doc.

^ I just wrote an e-mail to Mayor Curtatone of Somerville to thank him for job he's doing.  I've got a lot of pride in both of my cities (Boston and the 'ville), and I think a lot of that comes from the efforts of the local government.  There are a lot of young people around here, and they demand a vibrant, beautiful, culturally rich and efficiently run place to live.  I think that's what's being delivered.  As such, I dropped a quick e-mail.  Also, Mayor Curtatone is a Boston College grad.  So, you know, Let's Go Eagles.

^ I had an entirely flavorless cupcake just now.  There was a small box of them sitting in the kitchen, so I grabbed one, took one bite and tossed it out.  It tasted like packing peanuts.  Such a shame.

^ The Yankees are eleven games above .500 and have the night off before coming up here to Boston for a road series against the Sox.  Thankfully, that's not going to kick off until tomorrow, so I can spend another day being thankful for Kyle Farnsworth's suddenly effective pitch repetoire, Alex Rodriguez's new clutchness, Robinson Cano's one-million batting average and Mike Mussina's baffling string of quality starts.

^ My 26th birthday is in two days, and a weekend of activities await me.  I'm hitting the Common Ground for 90s Night on Friday after the Ruckus Show (come if you haven't seen it yet), then enjoying a picnic breakfast on Saturday with [info]kimmercake, fantastic tea at Upstairs on the Square, a picnic potluck in Sennott Park at 6 (come!), and then fondue and camaraderie at the B Side (come!) at 9ish.

^ Kim and I just booked up our One Year Anniversary Festivities.  We're staying at a Bed and Breakfast in Portland, Maine, catching a Seadogs game, doing a little disc golfing and probably making out a few times.  The actual anniverary is a month and a few days away.  I had a feeling early on we'd make it at least a year.

^ Jeremy Shockey, one of the main reasons that I was disgusted with myself for having the NY Giants as my favorite team, is gone.  And he can go to hell.

Damn You, Michelle Wie

Despite the fact that she's awful at golf, Michelle Wie has made $12 million dollars.  And so continues my irrational dislike of Michelle Wie.

~ My mom has given me three books that belonged to my grandfather. They are, to put it mildly and obviously, very old. One is copyright 1905 and has no other publishing information, so I am guessing it was a first edition? They look great, but I am afraid to read them. Just paging through to enjoy the wonderful smell has led to loose leaves in my hands. I don't yet know enough about preservation to know quite what to do about that. Somehow I think the answer will not be "use contact paper."

I will find a way! The 1905 one is called Mrs. Tree's Will; its story has a character named Homer Hollopeter. *giggle* Hollow peter.

~ I was just searching through my parents' bathroom closet for a toiletry I should have packed with me and instead found a package of Lee Press-on Nails. I snorted and thought, "What are these from, 1986?" And then I flipped it over and noticed the price tag from Zayre. Oh the days of my punk rocker Halloween costumes!

Skills

I think I'm a lot better at logic puzzles, strategy games and numerical problem solving than I am at improv, disc golf, capoeira or any other hobby I spend a lot of time on.  For some reason, I am always drawn more to the things I'm bad at than the things I'm really good at.  I wonder why that is.

Friday Favor - Hobbies
My new Disc Golf frisbees have arrived in the mail, and I'm excited.  I now have a collection strong enough (four discs for me and three for [info]kimmercake) to play as much as I want!  Anyway, this got me to thinking about enriching and enjoyable hobbies, and how prominent a role in a satisfied life they play.

So I ask you, my friends, to tell me about your hobbies.  Caveat:  It needs to be something that I don't immediately think of when I think of you.  So, [info]vlvtjones, you can't say "Being a goddess stage manager."  [info]knowthyself, you can't say "being a ninja" or "writing and being a ninja."  See how this works?

Go!

Loaded Asterisks
Hello Asterisks!

* Chief Justice Earl Warren, in addition to giving us the desegregation of public schools, gave us one of my absolute favorite quotes:  "I always turn to the sports page first. The sports page records people's accomplishments; the front page nothing but man's failures."

* The Ultimate Comedy Championship nearly sold out again, marking the third straight big house for my show.  It pleases me greatly that I'm putting a quality product on stage at the theatre I love so much.  The casts are all having fun, the audience is having fun, and I'm having fun.

* RZA from the Wu-Tang Clan loves chess, and created the world's first online chess and Hip-Hop community.  That's just what I need.  Folks who are both cooler than me and capable of beating my ass down in chess.

* I'm going to my first Yelp Elite event tonight; it's a karaoke party at Club Cafe in the South End.  I will apparently be getting my free Yelp Elite Hoodie and an abundance of free food.  Mercifully, [info]kimmercake will be there to and will hopefully applaud me after I belt out some Avril.

* I'll be in New Jersey and New York this weekend.  Let me know if I should pick anyone up anything!

New York City Waterfalls...
Wow, so I just read about this New York City Waterfalls exhibit by Olafur Eliasson. It looks really awesome, especially the one under the Brooklyn Bridge. I saw Eliasson's exhibit at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art last fall, and it was fantastic. I'm kinda sad I won't have the opportunity to check this out. Has anyone seen it in person? I want to see some real pictures!

"I WILL SELL THIS HOUSE TODAY."
Well, we are listed! Here's a link. The open house is this Sunday from 1-3 if you are interested. Even if you don't want to buy, go see it and create the impression it's a hot commodity! Hehe.

(Subject line is an "American Beauty" reference btw...)
