| Bio: | I am an American who is planning to move to Canada. I have no clue what I am doing. Well, alright, that's not entirely true. I've done quite a bit of research. But one thing that said research proves to me over and over is this: There's always another challenge waiting for you around the corner. I say this not to discourage you, the reader, from attempting your own move outside your home country, but because it's the truth. I am writing this journal to document my own trials, tribulations, frustrations and successes. In the interest of anonymity, proper names will be replaced with first initials. You may, therefore, call me "K." A bit of background: I am a man in my mid-20s, living and working outside of Boston, Massachusetts, USA, for the time being. I'm single, I'm in debt up to my eyeballs (though less than most people in my age bracket) and I'm restless. I'm a born wanderer, and as such, I decided some time ago that it's simply time for me to move on. And of course, I happened to fall in love with a city that's in another country...oops. There's so much that goes into immigrating to a foreign country. Mistakes will be made, lessons will be learned. I am writing this journal in the hopes that someone else in my situation down the road will benefit from the knowledge I gain in the process. I'm also known for a pretty sharp tongue and no filter, so hopefully some of it will be entertaining, too. Some of the topics I'll eventually cover include getting a passport, finding a job, dealing with immigration paperwork, getting a work visa, getting permanent residency status, importing your car, tenant's rights, and so much more. But bear with me, as this is more or less in real time. I'll write about it when it happens. If you have any helpful hints for me, I'd love to hear them - please comment! And feel free to add!
